What Is MW2 Android
MW2 Android is a community port of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2009) for Android phones. It is based on the MW2 Recompiled project. It is not an emulator: the Xbox 360 game code is translated ahead of time into native code and compiled into an Android app, so the game runs directly on your phone's processor with a Vulkan renderer.
The app has a launcher, on-screen touch controls that you can customize, controller support, audio, a performance overlay and a graphics driver loader for some Adreno phones. The project is experimental, so expect bugs, and results will differ from phone to phone.
Important: no game files are included. You must provide your own legally obtained Xbox 360 disc image of Modern Warfare 2 (version 1.0.557, USA or Europe). Tech Decode does not provide or link to game files.
WARNING: This is an experimental app, and the APK on this page is only the launcher and engine. It cannot start the game without your own disc image. Always download the APK from the official GitHub releases page only, and do not trust other sites that re-upload it.

Native ARM64 App
Runs as a standalone Android app built with the Android NDK, not an emulator.
Vulkan Renderer
Works with Vulkan 1.0 and up, with fallbacks for phones that lack newer Vulkan features.
Touch Controls
Customizable on-screen layout with adjustable size, opacity and tap-to-toggle aiming.
Controller Support
Bluetooth or USB Xbox and PlayStation controllers are detected automatically.
Performance Overlay
Shows FPS, frame time, CPU use, temperature, RAM and the active Vulkan device.
Shader Cache
Saves compiled shaders so later launches start faster.
Custom GPU Drivers
Adreno phones can load Turnip driver packages from the in-app Graphics Driver menu.
Mods Folder
Version 0.0.2 adds a mods directory overlay for loose files and scripts.

NOTE: The release notes for v0.0.2 say Android 8.0 or higher, but the project's newer README says Android 10 or later. Use Android 10 or newer to be safe.

These are the developer's targets, not a guarantee. Real performance depends on your phone, its driver and heat. Phones below these tiers may not run the game well.
How To Install On Android

Download the APK. Open Server 2 (the GitHub Releases page) and download app-campaign-release.apk from the Assets section. There is also a multiplayer APK on the project page.

Install it. Open the APK and allow installation from this source if Android asks. Then install the app.

Add your game disc image. Copy your own Modern Warfare 2 Xbox 360 disc image (an .iso file) into your phone's Download folder. The launcher looks for .iso, .7z and .zip images there.

Open MW2 Campaign. If the launcher finds your image, tap INSTALL and PLAY. It unpacks and checks the game files into the app's storage. If it does not find it, use the Select ISO option and choose the file by hand.

Launch the game. When the install finishes, tap LAUNCH GAME. You can turn on Direct Launch to skip the launcher next time.

Tune your settings. In the launcher, the Graphics page has resolution scale, FPS limit and FOV. The Graphics Driver page is for Adreno phones, and Profiles has mission unlocks and progress.
Best Settings For Smooth Gameplay
Render scale
The project recommends 60% to 75% render scale for a solid 60 FPS on mid-range phones.
Multisampling (MSAA)
Keep MSAA turned off on phones. It costs a lot of performance on mobile GPUs.
Texture budget
Set the texture budget to 256 MB or 512 MB to avoid memory pressure on phones with less RAM.
Keep your phone cool
Close other apps and use the overlay to watch temperature. Heat can lower the frame rate after a while.

Aiming can be set as tap-to-toggle or hold-to-aim. To change the layout, open the pause menu and choose Edit controls, where you can drag, resize and adjust the transparency of any button. A Bluetooth or USB controller is detected automatically.
Troubleshooting
Black screen on Android
Check the game.log file. If it says the device lacks dynamic rendering and extended dynamic state, your stock GPU driver is missing some Vulkan features. On Adreno phones, use the in-app Graphics Driver menu to load a Turnip driver package.
Where are the log files?
On Android, look in /sdcard/Android/data/com.mw2.recomp.sp/files/ for game.log and launcher.log. Send these when you report a problem.
Launcher does not find the disc image
Make sure the file is directly inside the Download folder and ends with .iso, .7z or .zip. If it still does not appear, use the Select ISO option.
Black terrain or flickering on Snapdragon
Version 0.0.2 includes fixes for Adreno graphics problems. Make sure you have the latest release installed.
Crashes and bugs
This is an experimental project, so some phones may have problems. Check the GitHub issues page before reporting a new one, and include your phone model, chipset and logs.
Also Works On PC
The same project also has Windows and Linux builds (Steam and LAN versions). On PC you download the release archive, run the launcher, choose INSTALL GAME, and point it at your own game disc image. A Vulkan 1.2 capable graphics card is needed. This guide focuses on Android.
